INC-5.2 Observer

I was honored to be chosen as one of three delegates from Earth Echo International to attend the INC-5.2 negotiations in Geneva, Switzerland. These negotiations were done in efforts to finalize a global plastics treaty. As part of this experience, I had the chance to:

-Sit in on official contact group negotiations

- Attend numerous side events and connect with everyone from delegates to leading experts in public health

-Ask a panel of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy specialists how community-based efforts can support the advancement of EPR initiatives

-Author a policy briefing on behalf of the Children and Youth Major Group (available here!)

-Work to make the negotiations more accessible to our communities back home. By breaking down the behind-the-scenes of how this treaty is being shaped—and why it matters—we can help build a larger, more informed group of advocates ready to rally behind youth values being included in the text.

When negotiations began to come to a close with no final treaty in sight, I wrote this blog post to remind people these negotiations were still incredibly productive and this was not a failure. Read my blog post here!
